The idea of committing a genocide is still alive, but we must eradicate it, Anna Astvatsaturian Turcotte, who is an Armenian refugee from Baku, as well as an attorney, writer, lecturer and human rights defender, said in her speech at the II Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide in Yerevan.

In her words, this is a problem which our successors will still face. According to the attorney, in 1918 the Armenian Genocide was “re-committed”in Baku, when dozens of thousands of Armenians were exterminated. “In response to the liberation movement, the Azerbaijan Armenians were subjected to horrible atrocities. We survived a genocide, ethnic cleansing and loss of property thrice. After my grandfather died, his and my grandmother’s tombs were desecrated,” Astvatsaturian Turcotte noted.  

According to her, the Armenian people want to restore justice. “Let’s make this century one of genocide prevention,” she concluded.
