First president of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev  admitted that he feels responsible for the collapse of the Soviet Union, as he failed to adequately confront the environment, Interfax reported on Monday.

He twice or three times left the  committee meeting on development of a new union treaty which he headed, he said answering the students' questions during the presentation of his book at the Moscow School of Economics.

He assured that he spoke against the substitution of the Union with something unclear and believed that the state should be preserved.

 He also added that he has the responsibility, because nobody dismissed him from his job he left it himself as he could not cope with it.
