Taken into consideration the fact that the defendants pleaded guilty to the offence they got short terms: Natalia Muravyova received one year probation  , Kasyanov - two years , and Hakobyan - three years .

As the press office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the United States reported earlier, in 2002, a resident of the Southern California Mher Hakobyan and his wife Natalia Muraveva were detained on suspicion of hiring prostitutes from the Eastern Europe to work in the Southern California cities. Both suspects were imprisoned without the right to bail.

According to the public prosecution, the criminals helped women from the Baltic States and Russia to fill in the documents for Visa Waiver Programs, which allows to make tourist or business trips to the United States without obtaining a visa. This program allows the citizens of several countries to stay in the US up to 90 days . When the women arrived to the US, the criminals forced them to prostitution. The same charges were brought against a certain Alla Kasyanov, who , as it turned out later , was the ex-wife of Hakobyan.

The couple was caught at the airport in Los Angeles upon accepting Latvian women who could not clearly answer simple questions about their places of residence in the United States and goals of visit. Moreover, the customs officers discovered "prostitutes’ accessories ": condoms, drugs to prevent infections from different sexual activities , and other items of sex paraphernalia in the luggage of the women.

Santa Ana court documents state that the criminal trio has transformed their apartments in Santa Monica into brothel, where the prostitutes accepted customers during the period of 3 months, and then returned home. 30 minutes of those women’s service cost $100, $350 or more. In total, Hakobyan together with his criminal group smuggled 20 years old 14 Russian-speaking women from Latvia and Russia to the USA.
