The Kenyan police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse demonstrators in Nairobi who claimed resignation of the members of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEBC), reports Reuters citing witnesses. The demonstrators gathered in the center of Nairobi and were shouting “IEBC should leave".

The exact number of protesters is not reported. This is the second demonstration that took place in Kenya during two weeks. In late April the police used tear gas as well to disperse opposition protesters who claimed dissolution the Electoral Commission in the run-up to elections in 2017. The opposition was accusing the Commission of being biased, reports RIA Novosti.

As reported earlier, the following   elections in Kenya will be held on August 8, 2017. As expected, at least 22 million Kenyans eligible to vote will take part in voting. This will be the second general elections in Kenya since the adoption of a new constitution in 2010 that ensures an open and fair electoral process.
