YEREVAN. - President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Tuesday received Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Kunio Mikuriya.

Welcoming the guest, the President noted that the Secretary General’s subsequent visit is indicative of the WCO’s consistency in supporting the reforms implemented in the area of customs service in Armenia.

Sargsyan highly appreciated Armenia’s cooperation with the organization, expressing hope that Mr Mikuriya’s visit will give a new impetus to the further strengthening and deepening of cooperation, also allowing to assess the efficiency of reforms implemented by Armenia in this area in recent years.

President Sargsyan wished success to the work of the European regional workshop entitled “Application of Single Window principle in the context of WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement,” which is held in Yerevan.

Kunio Mikuriya noted that the workshop is held in Yerevan by virtue of the fact that the WCO has for many years taken part in reforms carried out in Armenia, there also being a wish to present it as an exemplary state for neighboring countries.

At the meeting the interlocutors also referred to the possibilities of further development of years-long productive cooperation between Armenia and WCO and the results of reforms carried out with the organization’s support in the customs sphere of Armenia, including improvement of legislation, modernization of border crossing points, introduction of electronic systems, workers’ training and other activities carried out in a number of other directions.
