An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 occurred in central Italy, U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake occurred at 02:35 local time. Its epicenter was 134 kilometers to the north of Rome and 55 km to the east of the city of Perugia which was affected by an earthquake on October 26.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV) places the earthquake's epicenter in Pieve Torina (Macerata) at a depth of 8km, and rates the magnitude as 4.8.
