In recent months the European Court of Human Rights has received more than 40 thousand claims from Turkey, said the ECHR press secretary to the AFP news agency. According to him, the volume of complaints received by the court, after the attempted coup in Turkey, is unexpected and unprecedented. It is not known how many claims the ECHR will consider, said the ECHR official, noting that the Court had heard 7,500 lawsuits against Turkey, before it received new claims.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland expressed a concern over the mass flow of claims from Turkey, calling on the Turkish authorities to respect the European Convention on Human Rights and fundamental freedoms.
