YEREVAN. - The sale of 20 percent of Armenia’s gas transmission system to Gazprom in 2013 wasn’t a shady deal.   

Minister, Chief of Armenian Government Staff Davit Harutyunyan, stated the aforementioned in the Armenian parliament on Wednesday, responding to the question of Tigran Urikhanyan.

The latter inquired how the current Armenian PM Karen Karapetyan, who used to be the director of Gazprom, had voted on that issue at the session of the Gazprom Board of Directors, and how this strategically important asset could be sold for $300 mln debt.

Harutyunyan responded that at the government hour the deputies’ questions should concern the collective work of the Government, and not the activity of its separate members.

“As to the deal per se, I would like to recall that it was carried out in several stages. Exactly as a result of this, the gas price for Armenia significantly changed. The deal was ratified by the parliament,” Harutyunyan noted.
