YEREVAN. – If the parliamentary election in Armenia were held next Sunday, 26.4 percent of respondents would vote for Tsarukyan alliance [which is led by opposition Prosperous Armenia Party Chairman and businessman MP, Gagik Tsarukyan].

Director of the Gallup International Association Armenia Office, Aram Navasardyan, stated the above-said at a press conference on Monday, as he presented the starting indicators—based on the results of a pre-election sociological survey that was conducted in the country from February 23 to March 2—of the political parties and alliances that are running for parliament.

In his words, 22.8 percent of respondents would vote for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia.

“4.3 percent would vote for Yelk [(Way Out)] alliance,” said Navasardyan. “3.9 percent—for the [current coalition government’s junior partner] Armenian Revolutionary Federation [(ARF)] Dashnaktsutyun [Party], 3.4 percent—[for] the Free Democrats Party, 2.7 percent—[for] the Armenian Revival Party, 2.6 percent—[for] the ANC [i.e. the Armenian National Congress Party], 1.8 percent—[for] Ohanyan-Raffi-Oskanian alliance, and one percent—[for] the Communist Party of Armenia.”

“[But] the [ongoing election] campaign can change the picture a lot,” stressed Navasardyan. “Four to five [political] parties have a potential chance of entering the [new] National Assembly. They are Tsarukyan alliance, the Republican Party, Yelk alliance, the ARF, and the Free Democrats.” 

The parliamentary election in Armenia will be conducted on April 2.
