Ever since the normalization of Ankara-Moscow relations, numerous Russian women, who are married to Turkish citizens, have started returning to Turkey, according to Hürriyet daily of Turkey.

Some Russian women had left Turkey after the incident when the Turkish air force had shot down a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft/interdictor on November 24, 2015; this incident had led to a strain in Turkey-Russia relations.

As per the newspaper, about 60 thousand Russian citizens, the majority of whom—women, live in Antalya, Turkey. Around 40 thousand Russian women are married to Turkish men, and about 80 thousand children live in such families.

Head of the Russian Art and Culture Association, Irina Balchi, noted that the crisis between the two countries had impacted the marriages between Turkish men and Russian women, too.

In her words, at that time about 2,000 Russian women had left their Turkish husbands, taking their children with them.
