YEREVAN. - The wages of German man are 21 percent higher than salaries of women, representative of the German federal ministry of family affairs told Armenian journalists in Berlin.
Presenting statistical data, Lisa Singer noted that men with the same qualifications could earn six percent more than women. A federal law has been adopted to tackle the problem. According to the German official, the difference in state agencies is less than in private institutions thanks to the policy implemented by the government.
She added, in Germany it is not acceptable to ask how much money he or she earns. And with the new law, companies will report on how much their employees get.
Another federal law is aimed at equating the representation of women and men in large companies. According to that law, especially in the 100 largest companies represented at the Stock Exchange, opposite sex should make at least 30 percent of the leadership. In 3,500 companies, this proportion should be at least 15 percent. And in the ministry, for example, women make 56 percent of the leadership.
Asked how private companies value their employees' qualifications to provide equality, the official said the experience and education are being taken into account.
“Each company can introduce its standards when it comes to employment, but it should be universal for women and men,” said Lisa Singer, adding that their motto is “Equal Opportunity for All”.
