In January 2019, “Armavir” Penitentiary Institution of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia recorded 4 deaths. This is what Armenia’s Ministry of Justice informed in response to the inquiry of the Group of Public Monitors Implementing Supervision over the Criminal-Executive Institutions and Bodies of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

Criminal cases have been instituted in relation to all death cases. Therefore, it is necessary to address preliminary investigation bodies to obtain information on the reasons and circumstances behind the deaths.

On 5 January 2019 at around 18:00, convict L. M. died at Surp Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center.

On 20 January 2019 at around 18:05, ambulance doctors recorded the death of convict S. S. after arriving at “Armavir” Penitentiary Institution of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

On 27 January 2019 at around 23:15, convict A. N. died at “Armavir” Penitentiary Institution of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

On 31 January 2019 at around 13:00, the death of convict M. G. was recorded at Surp Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center.

There were 417 detainees and convicts who were transferred from “Armavir” Penitentiary Institution to the medical institutions of healthcare authorities for medical examinations, and 32 detainees and convicts were transferred for treatment.
