Women’s protection from domestic violence is very low in Armenia. This is what Deputy of the Prosperous Armenia Party’s parliamentary faction and Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs Naira Zohrabyan said during a conversation with the correspondent of NEWS.am News from Armenia.

According to her, even though the law on prevention of domestic violence was adopted, it is not enforced.

“I knew that the laws wouldn’t be enforced since people’s mindsets haven’t changed. Even if there are changes, they are insignificant. Today, women in Armenia are incapable of fighting for their rights, even when it comes to domestic violence,” the MP stated.

The MP noted that most of Armenia’s political parties avoid engaging women in their parties since they don’t believe in them. In addition, women often don’t believe in themselves either.

Naira Zohrabyan declared that the 8th of March has lost its meaning as the day of protection of women’s rights and has turned into a day of giving “flowers” to women as gifts.
