EU does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over Golan Heights, the EU top diplomat Federica Mogherini said in a statement.
“The position of the European Union as regards the status of the Golan Heights has not changed. In line with the international law, UN Security Council resolutions 242 and 497, the EU does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights,” The Jerusalem Post reported referring to the statement.
The EU’s unchanged position on the Golan Heights was also announced by the European Council President Donald Tusk following the results of the EU summit on March 21-22 even before the US official recognition of Israeli sovereignty over this region.
The US President Donald Trump on March 25 recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The UN since 1967 believes that part of this territory is occupied by Israeli troops.
