The US senators submitted a bipartisan bill banning the transfer of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey until the US government confirms that Ankara will not buy the Russian S-400 air defense system, Reuters reported.

“The prospect of Russia having access to U.S. aircraft and technology in a NATO country, Turkey, is a serious national and global security risk,” Democrat Jeanne Shaheen noted.

Turkey, along with the United States and seven other countries, participates in the F-35 project, producing various parts for this fighter jets. At the same time, Ankara has already ordered 30 such machines from Washington. The United States, however, warned Turkey that they will refuse to sell the F-35 if Ankara buys the S-400.
