The Central Electoral Commission of Turkey has announced the name of the new mayor of Istanbul.

According to the Turkish Sozcu, the Central Electoral Commission of Turkey has announced that the Justice and Development Party’s candidate Binali Yildirim lost by 25,000 votes and candidate of the oppositional Republican People’s Party Ekrem İmamoğlu has been elected new mayor of Istanbul.

The ruling party has announced that it will appeal the results of the elections in Istanbul and Ankara since, based on its data, there have been many violations.

During the March 31 local self-government elections in Turkey, Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party won by garnering 44%, but lost in the cities in which it used to win, including Ankara, Izmir and Antalia.
