According to the information of Armenian News-NEWS.am, a while ago, Judge Anna Matevosyan of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan rendered a decision to remand Deputy Minister of Healthcare Arsen Davtyan for two months. Davtyan was arrested under the suspicion of receiving a particularly large bribe.

Earlier, the National Security Service had reported that on 30 March 2019, the head of a medical institution had personally given a particularly large amount of money to the deputy healthcare minister in his office, and the money was transferred under the operative supervision of the employees of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia.

In relation to the prima facie crime, the Investigative Department of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has instituted a criminal case under point 2 of part 4 of Article 311 and point 1 of part 3 of Article 312 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The same day, the apprehended deputy minister was arrested under the suspicion of receiving a bribe in large amounts, and a signature to not leave the country was applied as a measure of restraint against the person suspected of giving a bribe, taking into consideration the person’s age and health condition.

Minister of Healthcare Arsen Torosyan had expressed his support to the law-enforcement authorities.

“Not doubting the presumption of innocence at all, I would like to inform that if the guilt is confirmed within the scope of the case, the person must be punished to the fullest extent of the law, no matter who the person is,” the minister wrote.
