Turkish on Sunday criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “irresponsible” for saying he would annex Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank if he wins Tuesday’s election, TASS reported.
"West Bank is Palestinian territory occupied by Israel in violation of int’l law. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s irresponsible statement to seek votes just before the Israeli general elections cannot and will not change this fact," Turkish FM tweeted.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 requires Israel to cease settlement activities in the West Bank, the Israeli government has previously refused to comply with the provisions of the document. In half a century, that has passed since the Jewish state gained control over the West Bank, Israel built about 120 settlements there, which are considered one of the main obstacles to the resumption of the peace process with the Palestinians.
