The Istanbul Convention concerns the prevention of violence against women, the introduction of violence detection mechanisms, mechanisms to combat it, and the provision of legal assistance to women in the event of violence against them, said Armenia Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan on Monday during the Facebook live broadcast.

According to him, the Istanbul Convention does not provide for the legalization of homosexual marriages.

“It’s ridiculous to even talk about recognition of the right to adopt children as a gay couple,” he said.

According to the minister, the convention does not provide for the creation of the third sex, since the concept of “sex” and “gender” is clearly defined there.

He noted that they are conducting a dialogue with the Armenian Apostolic Church, which is interested and worried about the interpretation of certain terms.

According to Badasyan, this agenda is in no way imposed on Armenia, since it is an obligation of the state towards its citizens and is aimed at protecting the interests and rights of citizens.
