Sudanese authorities allowed to temporarily release the former President Omar al-Bashir from arrest so that he could attend the mother’s funeral, the Sudanese newspaper Al-Sudani reported referring to its own sources.

The Sudanese authorities allowed the arrested President Omar al-Bashir to be released from Kubar prison to attend the funeral of his mother, who died on Monday at a hospital in Khartoum, RIA Novosti reported referring to the source.

According to the newspaper, al-Bashir came out accompanied by the former Minister of Defense.

According to eyewitnesses, the former head of state was surrounded by security officers at the Hamed cemetery in Khartoum.

The military coup took place in Sudan on April 11 against the background of four-month popular protests. President Omar al-Bashir was removed from power and later imprisoned. The transitional military council formed by the army took control of the government and announced its intention to transfer the leadership to the elected authorities within two years. The opposition did not agree with the military plan and continued the protests. Talks began in Sudan on a future settlement between the military council and representatives of the people. After the aggravation of the situation in Sudan on June 3, when the military dispersed part of the tent camp of protesters in Khartoum, the opposition’s negotiations with the security forces ceased.

The dialogue was restored only after the intervention of the mediators from the African Union. To date, the parties have agreed on the formation of the Supreme Ruling Council with the participation of military and civilians, and also lead a difficult discussion of the constitutional declaration, which will replace the basic law of Sudan for the next three years of transition.
