YEREVAN. - Chairman of the Popular Party of Armenia Tigran Karapetyan recently met with Chairman of the Heritage party Raffi Hovhannisyan. After the meeting Karapetyan arrived at the conclusion that the two parties can effectively cooperate.
"We are seeking common grounds. I think it would be right if two different, but equal, forces had their room in the political arena. Let both Russian and U.S. interests be represented in Armenia. Raffi Hovhannisyan and I arrived at the conclusion that our approaches are similar and acceptable to each other. Even now I say that the Heritage party receives support from the West. On the other hand, I am not ashamed to say that, to an extent, I have changed my attitude to Raffi Hovhannisyan and I am only friendly toward him now," Karapetyan said.
Karapetyan was not optimistic about possible alliance with the New Times party or the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D).
"I am not going to meet or unite with either of them. Despite everything, I appreciate and respect the ARF-D and view it as a traditional patriotic force," he said.
Karapetyan also stressed that he will never unite with Armenia`s second president Robert Kocharyan.
