Despite the fact that the dust content in the air increased significantly from October to December 2019 in Yerevan, however, the average indicators for the year did not exceed the permissible norms, Armenian minister of the environment Erik Grigoryan told reporters on Friday.

“Yerevan, compared to many other major cities of the world, has good performance due to the lack of large production capacities and the fact that car drivers mainly use gas as fuel. Operating enterprises periodically conduct inspections. All this has a positive impact on the ecology of the city,” he said.

He highlighted the importance of the Government’s decision to introduce new methods of calculation, since the methods that existed before that have been used since 1989 and are already outdated.

According to the Environmental Monitoring and Information Center SNCO, the dust content in the air was 1.5 times higher than the previous three months in Yerevan from October to December 2019.
