The Cairo criminal court Saturday decided to transfer the country’s mufti to the case of the Beit Ansar al-Maqdis terrorist group's  37 militants to approve the death sentence, RIA Novosti reported referring to the al-Masry al-Youm newspaper.

The group that later joined the ISIS was led by Hesham Ashmawy, whom the Egyptian media called the country's most dangerous terrorist.

Initially, 208 people were involved in the case; a sentence was pronounced against 37.

A total of 54 crimes were counted, including the murders of prominent police officers, the bombings of buildings in Cairo's security departments, as well as mosques and other buildings, and robberies.

The criminals tried to kill former Interior Minister Muhammad Ibrahim. Convicts are accused of involvement in a terrorist group, cooperation with the Muslim Brotherhood group, the destruction of state institutions, and other offenses.
