China understands the rational and necessary measures that some countries are taking to control the spread of a new type of coronavirus, but opposes overreaction and panic, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in phone talk with Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, RIA Novosti reported.

After the visit to China, the head of WHO praised the emergency measures being taken in China. The organization said it did not endorse unnecessary international restrictions on travel and trade with China, the FM said adding that they understand the reasonable and necessary measures that some countries have taken to control, but they are against an overly acute reaction and actions that cause panic.

According to him, China will continue to share information with countries around the world, adhere to the principles of openness and transparency, strengthen cooperation and jointly ensure global and regional security in the field of public health.

The FM also noted that thanks to the Chinese efforts, the mortality rate from coronavirus in the country is currently being kept at 2.1%, which is much lower than with other outbreaks of infectious diseases, this figure is also significantly lower than 17.4- 2009 H1N1 mortality rate in the US.
