YEREVAN. – Some companies abuse the tax and customs breaks granted by the government. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at today's session of the Armenian government.

"We provide tax and customs breaks for the import of raw material, to import the raw material, carry out production activities, and create value added in Armenia," he said. “But the SRC [State Revenue Committee] studies show that there are companies that benefit from these breaks which [the companies] are simply selling that imported raw material, and that sales provide greater volumes than the volume of production. It turns out that with these breaks, we create privileged companies for the sale of raw material in the market that [the companies] can have monopolistic advantages."

The Prime Minister added that the State Revenue Committee had reported to him at least three such cases.

The Minister of Economy, Tigran Khachatryan, said, in turn, that the law stipulates that if a company that has received a tax and customs break has decided not to produce but to sell, then this break, as well as the breaks that were granted earlier, are canceled.
