Japanese defense ministry intends to develop electronic warfare against ballistic missiles, Sankei Shimbun newspaper reported.

The new system will use high-power radiation to disrupt the exchange of telemetric information between the missile and the ground base from where it was launched, TASS reported.

According to preliminary estimates, the government plans to allocate around $35 million for preliminary development of such devices.

Japan has a two-step anti-missile defense system: vessels equipped with Aegis system and Patriot PAC-3.

Back in 2017, the Japanese government approved a decision to deploy two Aegis Ashore missile defense systems in the country, which caused concern of Russia and China.
