The Spanish police have arrested 89 people on suspicion of smuggling over 10,000 kg of drug and illegal transport of migrants from North Africa to Spain, the Associated Press reported.

According to the Civil Guard, a smuggling network used motorboats to transport people and drugs across the Strait of Gibraltar from Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in northern Africa.

Law enforcement authorities also reported that investigators found evidence of transporting 11 motorized 269 people and over 10,000 kg of hash. The gang used radar systems to avoid unwanted meetings with the police.

Criminals detained migrants in Spain until their families paid 5,000 euros for them.

Police confiscated 26 high-speed boats, over 10 tons of hashish, 29 cars, EUR 250,000 and 12 weapons.
