YEREVAN. -- Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan sent a congratulatory message on International Women's Day.

“This day is not only an occasion to congratulate our beloved women, mothers, sisters and daughters, but also once again to focus on the day that celebrates protection of women’s rights,” he said in a statement.

Unfortunately, violence against women is still observed in the Armenian society, PM said, adding that it is unacceptable, especially in the context of nation-wide concept of non-violent society.

 “Our task is to improve the level and quality of measures aimed at protecting the rights of women, which ultimately should lead to the prevention and elimination of violence by relevant authorities,” he said.

Pashinyan underline importance of the role of women in the new Armenia. He pointed to unprecedented political activity of women two years ago, which became a turning point that allowed the implementation of historic changes in Armenia.

“It is no coincidence that many women in the top ranks of the public administration system are successful, and in my opinion, their numbers should increase,” he added.
