A Russian citizen of Armenian origin Rubik Hovhannisyan intends to push for compensation from the Georgian authorities. He was convicted two years ago for short-term stay in the territory of South Ossetia.

In 2009 Hovhannisyan was detained on the border between Georgia and South Ossetia. He decided to visit his relatives in Armenia entering South Ossetia from Russia and planned to move to Armenia by a transit through Georgia.

Georgia accused him of violating law on “occupied territories,” Russian URA.Ru website reports.

Hovhannisyan was sentenced to two years in jail but later was pardoned under decree of Georgia’s president.

The Russian prosecutor’s office have already sent a letter to the Georgian colleagues requesting to investigate the complaint.
