Stepanakert stands for return of Karabakh to negotiating table, President of the Republic Bako Sahakyan said in an interview with Russian Echo of Moscow radio.

“Under the decision of OSCE Budapest summit Karabakh is a full member of the negotiation process. Talks held without Karabakh’s participation cannot yield serious results. We hope that the international community and international organizations will understand the need to restore negotiations in this format,” he said.

Sahakyan noted that Karabakh is a supporter of certain compromises. However, Karabakh and Azerbaijan understand compromises differently, he added.

Nearly every day Azerbaijani leadership voices threats against Karabakh. “Such policy cannot contribute either to negotiation process, or to peaceful resolution of the conflict,” President said.

He believes escalation of tension in the Karabakh conflict zone is likely in case international community remains inactive.

“We believe that threat existing today in the region does not apply only to Karabakh. It poses greater danger. New form of terrorism is displayed in the person of Azerbaijani leadership. It concerns not only Karabakh people and Armenians, it is a threat to world community as well,” Sahakyan stressed.

According to him, the international community is obliged to take certain steps to make Azerbaijan respect international norms.
