YEREVAN. - Any political force has its position and it is normal that “Prosperous Armenia” Party intends to run for upcoming parliamentary elections as an independent force, head of “Heritage” parliamentary group Stepan Safaryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“The ruling Republican Party of Armenia is a conservative force, whereas “Prosperous Armenia” party is right liberal. Why should they run for the elections on mixed ticket?” Safaryan noted.

Commenting on the question, whether this decision may be the result of recent rumors that “Prosperous Armenia” intends to quit the coalition, the MP dismissed the information and expressed confidence that the move accounts for a desire to demonstrate some independence within the coalition. “There is no point in leaving the coalition,” he emphasized.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, leader of Prosperous Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan said his party will not run for parliamentary elections on a mixed ticket with Republican Party. Tsarukyan stressed that being the second party in the parliament Prosperous Armenia does not need to unite with any political force.

“Small parties should unite,” he added.

Leader of Prosperous Armenia stressed that the party signed coalition agreement for Serzh Sargsyan to feel confident during international talks.
