YEREVAN. - Baku-pursued policy on the Karabakh conflict aims to maintain the current status quo, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said in an interview with Public Television of Armenia. 

“Azerbaijani is seeking preservation of the status quo, distorting the peace process, raising issues out of reality, which are unacceptable both for the Armenian side and the mediators,” he noted. 

According to him, it is very important the Armenian side clearly stated that it accept the approaches, proposed in the document. 

“Baku threw out only innuendoes against the Presidents’ statement. If Azerbaijan wishes the process to progress, rather than to maintain the status quo, it must stop using propaganda and try to move forward, so that progress may be achieved at the Presidents’ meeting in Kazan,” Kocharyan stressed. 

Commenting on the negotiations till the next round of talks in June, Kocharyan said Azerbaijan did not benefit from its own lies and now is on the verge of disaster.

“The time has come to be realistic. It is time to stop distorting history of the conflict and shifting responsibility for the consequences on the Armenian side," he added.

The diplomat stressed that Azeri officials use any forum for their weepy statements “on occupied territories.” 

“Does not Nagorno-Karabakh have occupied territories by Azerbaijan? Certainly does. But Nagorno-Karabakh is determined and understands that it will gain control over these territories,” he said. “When there is no argument, Azerbaijan resorts to personal insults. It is not our style. Both Armenia and the international community are speaking with facts, unlike Baku.”
