YEREVAN. – Deauville statement on Nagorno-Karabakh by Russian, U.S. and French Presidents was clear and targeted, French Ambassador to Armenia Henri Reynaud told a press conference in Yerevan on Monday.

Stressing that as an Ambassador of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing country, he should be cautious in his assessments, the official noted that the statement was rather clear and the time has come to seek development of a peace agreement. The Ambassador recalled that the Presidents urged the conflicting parties to refrain from use of force and expressed hope the sides will demonstrate understanding to achieve success in the conflict settlement during Kazan meeting in June.

According to him, the progress in the talks, as well as the early implementation of the agreement will give an opportunity to ease tension in the contact line, change the atmosphere of distrust and hatred towards cooperation and return the region to the historic mission, in particular to the crossroad of dialogue.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, Presidents of Russia, France and Armenia issued a joint statement on Nagorno-Karabakh within the framework of G8 Summit on May 26.

“We reiterate that only a negotiated settlement can lead to peace, stability, and reconciliation, opening opportunities for regional development and cooperation.  The use of force created the current situation of confrontation and instability.  Its use again would only bring more suffering and devastation, and would be condemned by the international community.  We strongly urge the leaders of the sides to prepare their populations for peace, not war,” they said in the statement
