YEREVAN. –The oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) is not offended at the Armenian authorities’ refusal to enter into dialogue on holding snap elections in the country, Feliks Khachatryan, Secretary of the People’s Party told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“We are seeking to find a peaceful solution to the current social crisis in Armenia at the soonest. We have many other ways to achieve our goals,” Khachatryan stressed, but declined to go into details.

Commenting on the question whether the ANC rushed to form the list of negotiators with the authorities, without receiving their response, the oppositionist said: “First, we thought the incumbent authorities are ready to sit at the negotiation table, as in any event they announced their intention earlier.  Secondly, we did not come to a hasty decision, as we are seeking to take appropriate steps to remedy the situation at the soonest,” he noted.

As reported earlier, on June 2, Armenian opposition published names of its negotiators with authorities. The Council of Armenian National Congress (ANC) decided upon the list of negotiators with the authorities.

However, Spokesperson for ruling Republican Party Eduard Sharmazanov commented for Armenian News-NEWS.am on ANC’s decision to form the list of negotiators with the authorities.

“The Armenian authorities have no intention to negotiate the issues regarding snap presidential and parliamentary elections proposed by the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC).

The authorities are ready for dialogue with all political forces, including the ANC. However, idea of holding snap elections is unacceptable as there is no ground for it.

As to the list of negotiators formed by the opposition, Sharmazanov said that the authorities have not discussed the issue so far.

The Armenian National Congress is an oppositional union founded in 2008 headed by first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan. Oppositional union comprises 17 political parties.
