The woman is in critical condition after being shot in the chest near the Capitol, CNN reported, citing sources familiar with the situation.

Sources were unable to provide more detailed information about the circumstances of the shooting, the channel said.

The channel also reports that several police officers have been injured.  At least one of them was hospitalized.
