Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has resigned, Rainews24 TV channel reported from the presidential palace, where Conte met with president Sergio Mattarella, The Guardian reported.
Before meeting with Mattarella, Conte held a meeting of the Council of Ministers and informed about his intention to leave his post.
Conte has resigned after he survived confidence votes in both houses of parliament last week after the former PM Matteo Renzi triggered a political crisis by withdrawing his small Italia Viva party from the ruling coalition.
