YEREVAN. - Past daily of Armenia writes: The National Security Service proposes to modernize the Law on State and Official Secrets.

The National Security Service believes that the current Law on State and Official Secrets needs to be completely reformed and improved in terms of content and legislative point of view, it was adopted in 1996 and several legal regulations in it do not reflect the current realities as well as the international track-record.

Thus, (…) the draft law on State and Official Secrets clarifies the definitions of the degree of secrecy, permission regarding confidential information, their means of protection, the seal of secrecy, and other concepts.

The scope of the Government's powers to classify information among the ranks of state and official secrets and their protection was also clarified, as well as a number of other legal regulations are envisaged.

With the adoption of the draft, the current legal regulations on the relationship between state and official secrets will be changed in terms of content and legislation, they will be made in line with current realities and international track-record, as well as new mechanisms and solutions aimed at protecting confidential information will be introduced.
