Clashes between prisoners took place on Wednesday in Prison No. 1 in the city of Guayaquil in western Ecuador. The riots in one of the largest correctional facilities in the country were reported on Twitter.

Clashes were recorded in Prison No. 1, the tweet says.

Together with the police and the Ecuadorian Armed Forces, we are working to deploy specially trained teams to improve security while strictly respecting the rights of prisoners.

Information about the dead or injured during the skirmishes has not yet been reported.

In November 2021, at least 58 people were killed in clashes between conflicting gangs in the same prison, and more than 10 were injured. In the same place, at the end of September last year, a surge of violence claimed the lives of 119 prisoners.
