President of European Parliament Jerzy Buzek sent a letter to the Armenian Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan expressing gratitude for invitation to events celebrating the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence on September 21.
“I greatly appreciate this invitation and would have been honored to join you for this important commemorative event. Regrettably, due to my previous important commitments I will not be able to attend.
However, it is my pleasure to inform you that I have asked Vice President Libor Roucek to represent me and the European Parliament on this special occasion,” the letter reads.
In his letter Buzek stressed he truly appreciated the constructive and beneficial meetings they had during his official visit to Armenia on May 18 which had enhanced relations between the European Parliament and Armenia.
“I was also most humbled paying tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide at the Tsitsernakaberd memorial,” he said in a letter.
He wished Speaker every success in furthering democracy, human rights, and peace in Armenia and across the region.
