YEREVAN. - Mayor of Yerevan Karen Karapetyan apparently does not like Armenian poet Yeghishe Charents. All the trees in the park near Charents museum were cut down in Yerevan-the city declared the capital of the book in 2012. Only a fir tree, brought form Charents’s birthplace survived. It was planted by a group of intellectuals in 2005, Aravot newspaper reports.

According to the museum director Lilit Hakobyan, two days ago Karen Karapetyan visited the area of the museum, but did not even knock on her door. According to Hakobyan, a road will be built in the area the trees were chopped. In this regard, the director sent a request to the mayor’s office, but received no reply.
