YEREVAN. - Elections, whether regular or snap, are means to achieve certain goals. They cannot become a goal by themselves, said MP from ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), member of coalition negotiating group with oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) Gagik Minasyan on Friday.

Commenting on the point of RPA parliamentary faction head Galust Sahakyan that the dialogue is pointless since there will be no early elections, Minasyan noted that Sahakyan expressed his personal opinion.

“The party says that we are in a process of discussion, where any issue can be a valid subject of debate,” he added. "Early elections cannot be the only purpose, elections are a means to solve problems. I believe, our goals are similar, namely – the solution of problems facing our nation and state.”

Asked whether he believes in early elections in Armenia, Minasyan said that the situation is not critical and during the discussions they are trying to convince their colleagues from the opposition that their views do not correspond to the reality.

"I am not sure what they might be persuaded but I am convinced that the listener will make the right conclusion, namely that there is no need for early elections," said the MP.
