Although funding for the healthcare sector in Armenia has increased considerably in recent years, a gradual increase in spending cannot be considered a complete solution. Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan said this during Tuesday’s preliminary debates on the execution of the 2021 state budget, at the joint meeting of the standing committees of the National Assembly.

"We have witnessed a sharp increase in funding. The increase took place over several years—which became a kind of cornerstone. Thus, we did not give up our [healthcare] services during these crisis years. Rather, on the contrary, the trust of our citizens in the services received within the framework of state-funded was strengthened. The application also increased, "Avanesyan said.

However, according to the minister, the healthcare system in Armenia must definitely launch the medical insurance system.

"That is very important. We have been working on this key reform for many years, but, sadly, it has not been introduced yet [in Armenia]," the minister of health added.
