President Emmanuel Macron's Ensemble (Together) alliance won 25.71% of the vote in the first round of parliamentary elections, followed by Jean-Luc Melanchon's left-wing coalition New People's Environmental and Social Union (NUPES), with 25.61%, according to the Ministry of the Interior of France.

In third place is far-right leader Marine Le Pen's National Union, with 18.74%.

The first round of the National Assembly—the lower house of the parliament—elections took place in France on Sunday.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the voter turnout was 39.42% as of 5pm local time.

The second round of these elections in France will take place on June 19. The candidates who received not less than 12.5% of the votes of the registered voters will run in them.
