Peruvian peasants kidnapped several women, accusing them of witchcraft, human rights activists are asking the authorities to help free them, RPP radio reports.

Ombudsperson Eliana Revollar Añanos called on the head of the Interior Ministry to immediately resolve the situation of women who were kidnapped by peasants in the municipality of Chile after they were accused of witchcraft, the media said.

In this area, which is located in the mountains, there are only three police officers who cannot ensure the safety of residents. Therefore, the Ombudsman asked the police to send more people there.

According to human rights activists, women could be tortured, stripped, and mocked.

As relatives noted, the women were abducted at the end of June.
