Two Indian army soldiers and six militants were killed in two separate gunfights in Indian-controlled Kashmir, Xinhua reported.

The shootouts took place on Saturday in two villages in Kulgam district, 70 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"As per the body examination, six militants were killed in two gunfights in Kulgam," the region's police chief told reporters.

Police said both operations were carried out based on specific intelligence information indicating the presence of militants in these villages.
