Google created a new doodle on Wednesday to celebrate the 176th anniversary of Mark Twain, famous American writer whose heroes are known by children all over the world.

The doodle depicts his most famous hero Tom Sawyer who is painting a fence, the scene from popular “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” published in 1876.

Tom was urged to paint the fence as a punishment by aunt Polly but finally made other boys to do it instead of him.

Mark Twain (real name Samuel Clemens) was born in a small town in Florida. He took his pen name to sign his writing as a newspaper reporter in Nevada. “Mark Twain” (meaning “Mark number two”) was a Mississippi River term: the second mark on the line that measured depth signified two fathoms, or twelve feet—safe depth for the steamboat.

In 1865 he had the first success as a writer publishing “The Celebrated Jumping Frog from Calaveras County” story.

Mark Twain used to give lectures throughout America which became extremely popular. He traveled a lot, visited Russia, Australia, Africa and Asia.

He suffered a lot of losses, deaths of three children and his wife Olivia. In response to a obituary published in The New York Journal, Mark Twain said his famous:"The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.”

World remembers his jokes and famous novels such as “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and 'Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' (1885) .
