German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is set to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a staunch supporter of Palestine, in Istanbul on Saturday for talks on relations and regional developments, including Israel's war on Gaza, Turkey's Daily Sabah reported.

Scholz and Erdogan will hold their third face-to-face meeting in the past four months, marking an intensification of diplomatic relations between the NATO allies. Scholz is expected to raise the Russia-Ukraine war and illegal migration, two key topics in German domestic politics, while Erdogan will “express Ankara's firm stance on Israeli aggression, violations of international law and the risk of inciting a regional war.”

They will also discuss the long-delayed sale of Eurofighter jets to Ankara.

According to Turkish media, Erdogan will call on Germany to abandon the planned purchase despite their alliance with NATO.

According to German Deputy Government Spokesman Wolfgang Büchner, the two leaders will hold a press conference after the meeting.
