YEREVAN. – Even though Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan personally went to Marseille, France, to attend session of the European People’s Party (EPP), no decision is made concerning the ruling coalition’s neither the Republican Party of Armenia’s (RPA)—which he chairs—nor the Prosperous Armenia Party’s (PAP), nor the Rule of Law Party’s (RLP), nor even the opposition Heritage Party’s EPP membership bid.
“According to the Zhoghovurd daily’s sources, the final decision will be made next February. But Serzh Sargsyan was able to achieve ‘victory’ in Marseille. Next year, in all probability, EPP will reject PAP’s bid. In his address, EPP President [Wilfried] Martens said: ‘We have no doubt that RPA, as well as RLP and Heritage, could become EPP’s constructive partners in a foreseeable future.’ And we can only make assumptions as to why he did not give PAP’s name,” Zhoghovurd writes.
