At its Cabinet session Thursday, the Armenian government approved the draft law on ratification of the Conventions for the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes, which were adopted in The Hague.

These conventions were the basis for the establishment of the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

But for the ratification of these conventions, the decision of the Constitutional Court of Armenia is necessary to determine whether the obligations stipulated in these conventions are in compliance with the constitution of Armenia.

Armenia's accession to the Permanent Court of Arbitration will be fully consistent with the country’s commitment to resolve conflicts peacefully and advance diplomatic solutions.

Membership in this court will also provide an opportunity to nominate lawyers practicing at the national level as arbitrators, including for the resolution of interstate disputes.
