The police in capital Tbilisi have begun to disperse the protest against the results of the recent parliamentary election in Georgia, reports the News Georgia portal.

Also, the police and utility workers have started to collect the tent camp of the protesters. In addition, a tow truck was brought to the scene, with the help of which they probably will dismantle the barricades.

The Georgian authorities later issued a statement noting that the rally participants had been given "sufficient time to express their protest." But now the authorities have to "take legal measures" to restore traffic, "to ensure the normal functioning of public services and the normal rhythm of citizens' lives".

Several demonstrators were detained during the dispersal of the protest in downtown Tbilisi.

The exact number of those arrested is not yet known. But according to preliminary information, there are at least ten of them.

Protesters say that force was used against them repeatedly. At least two people were injured.

The protest against the results of the parliamentary election in Georgia started Sunday evening.

And police mobilization began Monday evening after opposition political leaders announced that the rally would continue for at least another 24 hours.
